About CVC Celebration Concert 2014
One concert, two amazing music ensembles...
Opening..."Andy Davis and The Velvet Horns"
Born as an impromptu jam session among studio musicians, THE VELVET HORNS are a 9-piece soul band, covering ground from The Meters to The White Stripes. With musical influences from New Orleans second-line street rhythms, Memphis pocket grooves, and blistering Detroit horn lines, The Velvet Horns aim to carry the torch of old soul music into modern times.
Headlining..."Street Corner Symphony" (pictured above)
A 6-man a cappella group from Nashville TN, Street Corner Symphony came to international notoriety in 2010 when they became runners up on NBC's The Sing-Off. Since then, the men of SCS have performed around the world, giving benefits, clinics, and concerts, as well as recording two full albums and numerous singles. The six men of Street Corner Symphony are Adam Chance, Mark McLemore, and Kurt Zimmerman, along with brothers Jeremy, Jonathan, and Richie Lister. As experts in multiple styles of music, SCS are comfortable moving between most any genre of music, appealing to young and old alike.
Presented by the Cassandra Voss Center Foundation
Cassandra Voss was an extraordinary young woman who lost her life in a tragic car accident in May 2007. Her life was a celebration... she was an artist, a dreamer, a lover of beauty and a seeker of justice. As an involved student and a person of great influence at St. Norbert College, Cassandra pursued a double major in English and Women's and Gender Studies and a minor in art. She was to graduate in the spring of 2008 as the first St. Norbert College student with a major in Women's and Gender Studies. Cassandra's insatiable - and infectious - curiosity about the world and her passion for building relationships that recognize the equality and dignity of all continue to inspire us.
